How to ensure outsourced software development is secure Posted By : Fleming1
It depends on who you ask, but Codenomicom of Finland, a provider of software testing tools, reckons that 80% of security problems are caused by programmers writing insecure code. Much of this is the result of development schedules being too tight. Given that software applications contain thousands or even millions of lines of code, it is more than likely that some programming errors are made that could leave the application vulnerable to attack.

There was such a magic on the screen in 1995 when the people at Pixar came up with the first fully computer-animated film, Toy Story. Their second feature film, A Bug’s Life, may miss the bull’s-eye but Pixar’s target is so lofty, it’s hard to find the film anything less than irresistible.

Brighter and more colorful than the other animated insect movie of 1998 (Antz), A Bug’s Life is the sweetly told story of Flik (voiced by David Foley), an ant searching for better ways to be a bug. His colony unfortunately revolves around feeding and fearing the local grasshoppers (lead by Hopper, voiced with gleeful menace by Kevin Spacey). When Flik accidentally destroys the seasonal food supply for the grasshoppers he decides to look for help (”We need bigger bugs!”). The ants, led by Princess Atta (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), are eager to dispose of the troublesome Flik. Yet he finds help–a hearty bunch of bug warriors–and brings them back to the colony. Unfortunately they are just traveling performers afraid of conflict.

As with Toy Story, the ensemble of creatures and voices is remarkable and often inspired. Highlights include wiseacre comedian Denis Leary as an un-ladylike ladybug, Joe Ranft as the German-accented caterpillar, David Hyde Pierce as a stick bug, and Michael McShane as a pair of unintelligible pillbugs. The scene-stealer is Atta’s squeaky-voiced sister, baby Dot (Hayden Panettiere), who has a big sweet spot for Flik.

More gentle and kid-friendly than Antz, A Bug Life’s still has some good suspense and a wonderful demise of the villain. However, the film–a giant worldwide hit–will be remembered for its most creative touch: “outtakes” over the end credits la many live-action comedy films. These dozen or so scenes (both “editions” of outtakes are contained here) are brilliant and deserve a special place in film history right along with 1998’s other most talked-about sequence: the opening Normandy invasion in Saving Private Ryan.

The video and DVD also contain Pixar’s delightful Oscar-winning short, Geri’s Game. –Doug Thomas
Customer Review: If I Was A Bug, I’d Like This Sort Of Life
A little less sophisticated than its 1998 contemporary, Antz, Pixar’s A Bug’s Life still has charm as it takes us along on one ant’s (Flik, voiced by Kids in the Hall Alum Dave Foley) personal quest to fend off strong-arm grasshopper extortionists (think Seven Samurai here) by hiring a private army of circus performers to hold the menacing horde at bay. Got that? There’s little violence but the de rigueur implied death of a villain at the end is redeemingly satisfying. Adding to the film’s charm are the voice talents of some ’90’s A-listers, including Kevin Spacey (jeez, has he vanished or what?), David Hyde Pierce, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Denis Leary, as well as stars of more classic cinematic eras, such as Rodney McDowell, Phyllis Diller, and Madeline Khan. If you’ve grown up some since seeing this movie—and who among us can maintain otherwise—see it again from a new perspective. It works for young and post-young alike.
Customer Review: That D. Afton guy (below) is crazy. It’s an awesome movie!!!!!
I LOVED IT! I’d give it 10 stars if I could! My kids mimic the friendly, cute diaglogue, not the bad dialogue like that D. Afton’s kids. .

Miracle (Widescreen Edition)

From the studio that brought you THE ROOKIE and REMEMBER THE TITANS comes the movie everybody loves — MIRACLE. Filled with exhilarating nonstop hockey action and heart-racing suspense, it’s the inspiring true story behind one of the greatest moments in sports history — the 1980 United States ice hockey team’s triumphant Olympic victory against the Soviet Union. Kurt Russell gives a brilliant performance as the dynamic and determined coach Herb Brooks, who had an impossible dream — beat the seemingly unbeatable Soviets at their own game. Starting with a handpicked group of 26 undisciplined kids, Brooks coached them to play like they never played before, and turned 20 of them into a team that believed they could achieve the unachievable — and in the process, united a nation with a new feeling of hope.
Customer Review: Brilliant recalling of a moment in history
I grew up in Texas in the 60s. It’s an understatement to say that hockey was a sport I had little knowledge of, and even less interest in.

That changed very dramatically in 1980. For those of you too young to remember the cold war, it’s probably hard to understand the national significance attached to sporting and cultural events that pitted the US vs. the Soviet Union: Van Cliburn winning the Tchaikovsky piano competition in Moscow in 1958; Bobby Fischer defeating Boris Spassky for the world chess championship in 1972; the Soviet basketball team (in an extremely controversial game) ending the US’s unbeaten streak in the Olympics that same year; and the Miracle on Ice depicted in this movie. In each case, millions of Americans who had little interest in classical music or chess or basketball or hockey suddenly found themselves very interested indeed. Whether or not these events should have been viewed as Cold War battles, it’s simply the case that they were.

Having said that, how well does “Miracle” recall the events? I think it does so brilliantly, from the casting to the cinematography to the direction — all of it. It’s not hard to believe you’re back in 1980.

Final note: next to hearing the famed Al Michaels line “Do you believe in miracles? Yes!”, my favorite scene was a few seconds earlier. As the clock wound down with the US team protecting its lead, we see the coach’s wife in the stands, head bowed and gloved hands rubbing together nervously, unable to watch. One of many, many great vignettes in this great movie.
Customer Review: Miracle 2004
I have the DVD with 2 disks and enjoy it very much. My cousin is one of the major stars in this and was never an actor, but a hockey player! He did a great job and so did all the other kids. I remember watching the USA gold winning hocky game played in the Lake Placid Olympics on TV when I was 13 (my family being from upstate NY) and remember the sheer exhilaration and awe we all felt at beating the odds. Having said that, I don’t think the extras gave it the same feeling. But I guess you can’t paid Canadians enough to cheer for the US in hockey. I think it means more to them. Still, loved the movie and I want to say ‘Hi’ to all the ‘Miracle Cuties’ who were part of it. .

Based on the best-selling book of the same name by Fortune reporters Bethany McLean and Peter Elkind, a multidimensional study of one of the biggest business scandals in American history. The chronicle takes a look at one of the greatest corporate disasters in history, in which top executives from the 7th largest company in this country walked away with over one billion dollars, leaving investors and employees with nothing. The film features insider accounts and rare corporate audio and video tapes that reveal colossal personal excesses of the Enron hierarchy and the utter moral vacuum that posed as corporate philosophy. The human drama that unfolds within Enron’s walls resembles a Greek tragedy and produces a domino effect that could shape the face of our economy and ethical code for years to come.

    Format: DVD MOVIE
Customer Review: Good documentary about Enron
Great documetary. Alex Gibney is one of the better documentary filmmakers out there. The guy does his research on Enron without really getting into the movie and offering his own commentary (like let’s say Michael Moore). Instead, he tells the story through interviews with people who worked at Enron from the Ex-Vice President, to the actual “Enron Tapes” (like Watergate), TV interviews, Enron presentations, news reports to present Enron as the corrupt corporation they were.

The movie then gets a lot of credibility for that alone and it manages to go deeper than that. For instance, it questions how the banks, lawyers, and politicians in this country (Gray Davis, Governor Arnold, President Bush) were either too stupid or involved with Enron to possibly not see through Enron’s lies. So it starts out as a basic story about how Enron tricked a lot of investors and even their own employees into making millions for a select few but then branches into a very viable conspiracy connection. Again this claim is backed by many audio and video tapes by Enron traders, lawyers, bankers all who had a hand in Enron’s scam to fool so many people while hurting the economy (especially California).

Likewise, when the actual hearings are presented against Enron it’s great to see all these losers squirm and try to save their own hide all the while the evidence is presented right in their face.

It’s a good movie too because it serves as a moral lesson of what can happen, will happen and has happened with other corporations.

    Customer Review: Well Done!
It should be required viewing for every MBA student in the country, as well as every member of the US Congress. It could happen again in our lifetime if we do not learn the lessons of the past. I have now seen this documentary three times and still find it riveting! .

Customer Review: good follow up service
although my ordered items delayed in arrival, i experienced good & prompt follow up service in the tracing. if you could provide direct telephone number for outside u.s. that is better. thank you!
Customer Review: Not a full review but important information nontheless.
I will start by admitting that I didn’t fully read this Stephen Covey book so take what I have to say with a grain of salt and ignore my review completely if you so desire. There is a good reason why I didn’t get very far and I will get to that.

I read the book “How to win friends and influence people” years ago and to this day, I believe it was one of the greatest books I have ever read. The techniques I learned from that book truly did change my life and improve me as a person. Only recently someone suggested to me that if I enjoyed Dale Carnegie’s book then I would definitely enjoy “The 7 habits of highly effective people” as well. Now I generally am not a fan of “self help” type books but after reading some very positive reviews on the internet I decided I would buy it and read it. I purchased the book on a Friday and returned it on Saturday. Let me explain why.

Within a few pages of my beginning the book Covey began making references to his faith, the power of prayer, God and so on. (Later I found out he is an active member of the Church of Latter Day Saints). Sorry, but as soon as someone starts bringing religion, spirituality, prayer, higher power or whatever else into the discussion I pretty much tune out and lose interest and faith in anything else he has to say. I won’t go too deeply into it here because I don’t want to offend anybody but I’ve got no time for religion or religious zealots. As far as I’m concerned anyone who uses religion to bolster their argument for or against anything or tries to covertly slip it into the discussion of other matters is an automatic write off and someone whose advice I make a point of deliberately ignoring.

Some may gain some benefit from this book and if they do then that is fantastic and I am happy for them. Just be aware that Covey tries to sneakily interject religion into what is supposed to be a self help manual. For me that makes him a total write off. .

    Customer Review: Great little book!
Though not perfect, Strengths Finder 2.0 was able to recognize my strengths, some I was already familiar with and others not. We were assigned this book for work and will be meeting to have a “mini class” about it. I wasn’t too impressed. It reminded me of a high tech “Magic 8″ ball that could’ve have gone different ways. If I were to take the test again, I would probably answer some of the questions differently and get different results.
This might be a good test for someone to take before they are hired depending on the position.
Customer Review: Framework for success in all that you do
Studies have shown the results from the test associated with this book to be the most consistent through one’s life of any personality or strengths-based test. It has truly identified the keys to what make us tick and gives us a hand putting our natural talents to work! Best book around for finding yourself and your perfect career and activities. .
